  1. This README.TXT file contains late-breaking and otherwise important
  2. information you should know before installing Syntax for Windows.

  7. Installing Syntax for Windows
  8. __________________________________________________________________________
  9. 1)  PKUNZIP the Syntax for Windows files to a diskette or temporary
  10.     directory on the hard disk.  
  11.     
  12. 2)  Start Windows 3.1 and insert the diskette in drive A (or B).  
  13.  
  14. 3)  From the Windows File menu, select Run. 
  15.  
  16. 4)  Type a:SETUP (or b:SETUP or the name of the temporary sub-directory) 
  17.     and press Enter.  The install program will ask you for the drive and 
  18.     directory name you want Syntax installed in.

  21. Uninstalling Syntax for Windows
  22. __________________________________________________________________________
  23. Syntax for Windows does not "touch" any existing INI or other
  24. configuration files; it does automatically place its own SYNTAX.INI
  25. file in the Windows application directory.  
  26.  
  27. To uninstall Syntax for Windows, simply delete the Syntax for Windows
  28. directory and erase SYNTAX.INI from the Windows application
  29. directory.

  32. Graphics Problems
  33. __________________________________________________________________________
  34. Beta testing has shown that some video drivers have problems with
  35. certain device independent bitmaps as used by Syntax.  These problems
  36. show up with the left edge of the bitmap corrupted on the display.
  37. In some cases general protection faults have been generated.
  38.  
  39. The WinSpeed Version 1.03 driver has shown this problem.  We have
  40. contacted Panacea and they acknowledge the problem and have promised
  41. a fix very soon.

  43. Certain ATI graphics boards and drivers also have this problem.  The
  44. ATI VGA Wonder XL shows this problem only with the BIOS P/N 11201122020.
  45. A newer BIOS P/N 11201122030 works without problems.

  47. All known versions of the ATI Graphics Ultra have this graphics problem.
  48. The ATI Graphics Ultra drivers we have tested are dated 4/22/92.
  49. The BIOS P/N is 1130111513.  We have contacted ATI several times to
  50. report the problem and they have shown little apparent interest in 
  51. identifying or resolving it.
